Clare's Creations

ABOUT ME

Clare grew up in Bardsey  and now lives in Wetherby.  She was educated at Wetherby High School until 1974 when she left to continue her education at Park Lane College completing a two year Medical Secretarial Diploma.  On leaving college she obtained a position as Medical Secretary in a doctors' surgery in South Leeds, subsequently becoming Practice Manager in 1988, but in 2006 she decided she wanted to devote more time pursuing her career as an artist and is now Patient Services Manager which allows more time to pursue her ambition.

Clare has always been interested in art and all things creative, having tried her hand at a number of crafts, including painting, sewing, knitting, patchwork, papermaking and sugarcraft, but has throughout her life  always wanted to return to painting.  In 2000 an opportunity arose when her twin sister was looking to expand her own photography business and suggested that she could perhaps sell Clare’s art.  Clare enrolled on a couple of one day silk painting courses and was captivated by the way paint moves on silk and as most silk painters will report was "hooked".  In December 2000 she started her own business "Clare’s Creations" selling her original paintings, cards, prints and posters at Craft Shows but more recently at national garden shows such as Harrogate Flower Show, Malvern Flower Show and Tatton Park. She held an exhibition in 2003 with a fellow artist which was very successful and in 2007 had a solo exhibition in Wetherby Town Hall.

Clare started as a silk painter but is now exploring different media and joined Walton Group of Artists in the hope of broadening her skills and experience. The group has an annual exhibition in Walton and Clare was voted best in show in 2007. Primarily her work is inspired by strong colours and flowers, but she also produces novelty cards and prints from her original watercolours.

The product range now consists of cards, prints, posters, coasters, box canvases and of course original works.  Clare has been successful in agreeing a licensing agreement for eight Christmas cards which will be available in 2008 in retail outlets. Clare’s real ambition would be to give up work and to be able to spend more time painting and travelling the country doing Craft Shows with her husband Tim. Tim is able to provide a bespoke picture framing service to any piece of work. Without Tim’s help and patience she would not be able to continue to pursue her dream. Indeed many of the ideas for the novelty cards come from Tim, and although they are his idea, he cannot be persuaded to put paint to paper and continues to leave that to Clare!

2006 saw the launch of her website, www.clarescreations.co.uk which displays the range of pictures available and the shows at which she will be exhibiting. In the meantime Clare can be contacted by telephone on 01937 583399 or by e-mail at clare@clarescreations.co.uk
